Google DeepMind Supports Genesis Mission to Accelerate Scientific Discoveries

Google DeepMind has announced its support for the Genesis mission initiated by the White House, aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence to transform scientific research in the United States. This national program will unite 17 National Laboratories of the U.S. Department of Energy, industry, and academia to create an integrated discovery platform that addresses pressing issues in energy, scientific research, and national security.

In the face of modern challenges such as the complex dynamics of plasma in nuclear fusion and the processing of large data volumes, the application of deep learning methods can significantly accelerate the scientific discovery process. Google and the Department of Energy plan to harness the revolution in AI and computational technologies to enhance the productivity and impact of American research over the next decade.

As part of the program, Google DeepMind will provide access to its advanced AI models for researchers across all 17 laboratories. Among the innovations is the virtual scientific assistant AI co-scientist, which will help scientists synthesize information to generate new hypotheses and research proposals.

The AI co-scientist has already demonstrated its effectiveness in various biomedical applications, offering new candidates for drug repositioning and predicting mechanisms of resistance to antimicrobial agents. In 2026, the access program will be expanded to include tools such as AlphaEvolve for algorithm development and AlphaGenome for studying DNA.

Additionally, WeatherNext is a new family of weather prediction models that is already supporting the National Hurricane Center in their forecasts and warnings, helping communities prepare for natural disasters.
