The authors of the report argue that no single solution can completely prevent digital fraud. However, methods such as content provenance, watermarks, and digital fingerprints can provide important information about the creation and alterations of content.

According to Jessica Young, Director of Science and Technology at Microsoft, the main goal of the report is to create a roadmap for providing reliable information about content provenance. This is especially important in the context of rising misinformation and the emergence of new media provenance laws.

The study emphasizes that a lack of information about the provenance and history of content can lead to deception. Increasing awareness of high-quality content indicators is becoming critically important.
The Future of Media and Technology
Microsoft has been actively developing media authentication technologies since 2019 and collaborating with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). The report suggests ways to enhance trust in media through "high confidence in authentication."
Despite existing limitations, such as the vulnerability of traditional devices, the study offers new approaches to improving the reliability of authenticity indicators.
