Google AI Updates Announced in March 2026
In March 2026, Google unveiled a series of updates aimed at enhancing user interaction with artificial intelligence. A major focus was on the Gemini model, which now better understands user context, turning devices into proactive assistants for daily life.
New features include an expanded Search Live, enhanced AI tools in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, as well as upgrades to Google Maps. These changes make AI more accessible and useful across various aspects of life, from work to creativity.
Google Maps received a significant upgrade, introducing Ask Maps, which allows users to ask complex questions and receive instant answers. For example, users can now find out where to charge their phone without wasting time on coffee. Navigation has also been improved with Immersive Navigation, using real-world imagery to simplify routing.
The company also expanded Personal Intelligence, now available in AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app. This feature offers personalized recommendations based on users' preferences and connections with other Google apps like Gmail and Photos.
For users looking to switch to Gemini, tools were developed to import chat histories and settings from other AI applications. This allows for the preservation of personal preferences and avoids starting from scratch when transitioning to a new assistant.
In March, new features were also introduced for Pixel devices, making them more intuitive. For instance, Circle to Search helps find every detail of an outfit from a photo, while Gemini uses Magic Cue to provide recommendations for restaurants and other services.
