Anthropic Launches Claude Managed Agents to Simplify AI Deployment

Anthropic recently announced its new platform, Claude Managed Agents, aimed at simplifying the deployment of AI agents for enterprises and competing with existing orchestration frameworks. This platform represents an architectural shift: enterprises, already burdened with managing a growing number of agents, can now embed orchestration logic directly into the AI model layer. This promises to accelerate processes, allowing clients to deploy agents in days instead of weeks or months.

However, such a model also hands over more control of AI agent deployment and operations to the model provider — in this case, Anthropic. This could lead to increased dependency on the terms and changes of the Anthropic platform. Nevertheless, Anthropic claims that its platform 'handles the complexity' by allowing users to define agent tasks, tools, and guardrails with a built-in orchestration harness, eliminating the need for code management, checkpointing, and other complexities.

VentureBeat research indicates that interest in orchestration is rising, and Anthropic is striving to expand its footprint in this segment by offering new tools. In the first quarter of 2026, most enterprises were using existing frameworks like Microsoft Copilot Studio, but Anthropic is showing a growth in interest in its offerings.

However, using the Claude Managed Agents platform may come with risks of vendor lock-in, as session data is stored in a database managed by Anthropic. This could raise concerns for companies looking to avoid dependencies on software as a service. At the same time, the new platform promises to simplify agent deployment, which may be appealing to many enterprises.

The pricing for Claude Managed Agents introduces a hybrid model that combines token-based billing with usage fees. This makes costs more dynamic but less predictable. While Microsoft offers a more predictable pricing model, Anthropic is introducing new approaches that may raise questions among enterprises seeking transparency in their expenses.
