Google launched an offline AI dictation app called Google AI Edge Eloquent

Google has quietly released a new dictation app called 'Google AI Edge Eloquent' that operates offline on iOS. This app aims to compete with popular services like Wispr Flow and SuperWhisper. It is available for free download, and once the Gemma-based automatic speech recognition models are downloaded, users can start dictating directly on their phones.

The app features live transcription and automatically filters out filler words such as 'um' and 'ah', resulting in cleaner text. Users can choose from various text transformation options, including 'Key points', 'Formal', 'Short', and 'Long'. Additionally, the app supports local-only processing to enhance data privacy.

Google AI Edge Eloquent can import specific keywords and jargon from users' Gmail accounts and allows for the addition of custom words to the list. The app maintains a history of transcription sessions and provides search functionality, making it a convenient tool for users.

According to the company, this app is designed to bridge the gap between natural speech and professional, ready-to-use text. Unlike standard dictation software that transcribes filler words and mistakes, Eloquent utilizes AI to capture the intended meaning by automatically removing unnecessary words and corrections.

Currently, the app is available only on iOS, but the App Store description references an upcoming Android version that will integrate with the system and can be used across any text fields. If the testing of this app proves successful, we may see improved transcription features on Android as well.
